Meet our founder, Maria Case

My healing journey become something meaningful.

In January 2019, I suffered an ectopic pregnancy, and my fallopian tube ruptured. After emergency surgery, I was in a new fight to regain my strength and health. My ectopic pregnancy was only the beginning of the challenges I would face that year, beginning with severe depression and other health issues, including breast implant illness.

As I experienced one of the darkest periods of my life, I felt alone. I had friends, family, and a supportive husband, but no one could fully understand what I was going through, both physically and mentally.

After I was discharged from the hospital, I spent my time in a deep depression in isolation. I didn’t know how to cope with how I was feeling and couldn’t imagine sharing my pain with someone else. My close friend called asking if she could come over. I told her no. There was no way I could see anyone in my current state.

She showed up anyway. I was so angry with her, but I opened the door to see her standing in the rain, holding a little mug that said, “Hello, beautiful,” along with some flowers and rosé – our favorite thing to drink together. That was when I realized that we often don’t know what we need in the worst moments, and sometimes all we really need is someone to sit beside us, show us compassion, and remind us that we are loved and not alone.

Several months later, when my mother was struggling with schizophrenia, I had a similar realization. My father and I discussed how, during difficult times, we see who truly supports us. As a Latina, I faced many challenges breaking the stigma around mental health. My family and I struggled alone for 10 years, but when we finally overcame the stigma, our lives changed in a positive way. It struck me that we all face struggles in life, and it can feel isolating because we often don’t know how to support each other. Life’s journey is full of ups and downs, but we can embrace every moment and understand that each step is not only possible, but also there to teach us something meaningful.

I created Kompashion with the mission to make being there for one another easier so that we can all feel less alone during our darkest moments and start the healing journey. Oftentimes, it’s not a matter of if the people in your life care or not ““ it’s a matter of them knowing how to be there for you.

Kompashion Inspired By Compassion.

My parents are the most compassionate people I know. Growing up, we didn’t have much, but my parents were always finding a way to give. On two separate occasions, my parents opened up their home to my cousin and a friend who both struggled with drug addiction. They didn’t see a bad person, instead, they saw someone who needed love and compassion.

When my mother was diagnosed with schizophrenia and hospitalized, my father stepped up, dedicating himself to serving others, whether it was at homeless shelters or preparing meals for those living on the streets. My parents taught me what it means to truly give without strings attached and the importance of always showing compassion.

We often don’t see what other people have been through or are going through, and this can be isolating. But through compassion, we can help ourselves, and others heal.

There are lots of ups and downs in life’s journey; we can embrace every moment and realize that each step is not only possible, but can be enjoyable and meaningful as well.”

How Our Customers Are Healing Through Kompashion

“I was gifted a beautiful heart box on Valentine’s Day, I felt so loved, seen, and appreciated. It was full of reminders to love myself and tools to do that with. Everyone should be blessed with a friend and gift that can help themselves fall for themselves again.”

There for the journey

Hi, I’m Brian Case,

Standing by my wife, Maria, as she was going through her healing journey, was difficult, but has changed us both for the better.

We had ups and downs but came out on the other side with a unique insight into what trauma can do within a relationship. As we both began to open up to each other everything shifted.

We learned first hand how speaking up with friends and each other can change lives. So often we hide how we are feeling in fear of what others might think. But the real healing comes from vulnerability combined with compassion for others.

When Maria struck a genius moment to make a difference in people’s lives by offering them a chance to honor their healing journeys, I was on board to help Kompashion in any way possible.

I offer my entrepreneurial skills to support this vision of giving back to those in need and making a difference in people’s lives.

From our family to yours, healing is possible.
